Herbal medicines can include leaves, flowers, berries, and roots depending on the plant. They can be made into teas, decoctions, tinctures, glycerites, poultices or salves depending on what part of the plant is used and what it's being used for.
Pisgah Herbals is named in honor of Pisgah National Forest, the ring of hardwood forest that nearly encircles Asheville, NC and its surrounding communities. Pisgah Forest hosts exceptionally diverse ecosystems of all forms of life, including plants, many of them medicinal. These woods have taught me a great deal about respect, interconnectedness, and balance of all living beings. It is my mission to return the gifts bestowed to me by helping others embrace the healing capacity of nature and to develop lasting relationships with the web of life. I want to recognize that my education in Western Herbalism is not ancestral. I have no direct lineage to a particular culture’s wisdom. Instead I am indebted to the original people’s and all others’ knowledge and practices, and humbly give thanks to all that they have shared.
My list of physical complaints in my 20’s and 30’s was long and unoriginal: hypothyroidism, GERD, constipation, anxiety, seasonal allergies, migraines. A health crisis in my mid-30’s confronted me with the necessity to eliminate a few of my favorite things from my diet, namely gluten, dairy and eggs. Now, 10 years later, after working hard on my digestion and nervous system using herbs, supplements, and various movement and meditation practices I have none of the aforementioned conditions, no medications, no symptoms even. It took discipline and consistency but has been totally worth it. Changing my ways was hard but I was supported by health practitioners as well as friends and family. I will do my best to support you every step one the way as you navigate your path.
A committed life long student, here's my educational background: BA in Psychology from Thiel College in Greenville, PA; MA in Clinical Psychology from Cleveland State University in Cleveland, OH; Diploma from Center for Massage and Natural Health in Asheville, NC; Certificate in Community Herbalism from the Blue Ridge School of Herbal Medicine in Asheville, NC; and currently completing certification in Clinical Herbalism from the Eclectic School of Herbal Medicine in Low Gap, NC. I have finished all of my coursework and am now seeing clients independently with direct supervision from Thomas Easley, one of the most esteemed herbalists in the country.
